Per Gessle and his Gyllene Tider
friends are from Harplinge and Halmstad in the Halland
area. Most of the popular GT and Roxette songs were born
in this small town and recorded there (actually between
both towns in a place called Styrdal). The relevance of
Halmstad and the area around it is very important on
Per's personal life and so can be identified in many of
the songs written by him. "Småstad",
"Harplinge" and the new "På promenad
genom stan" are clearly influenced on his hometown.
Many references in other songs can also be identified.
-Are you travelling to Halmstad?
You need to find the tourist office which is a nice
red castle beside Nissan river (see picture). Although
your intention maybe to look for
"Roxette-related" sites, you will end up
realising that there is much more to do and see, and you
won't want to lose time in just two places.
The centre is very nice to see and walk around,
specially if you are not from Sweden and are used to
other kind of architecture. You may find "Stora
Torg" in the main square, with the bull.
On the riverbank you can see Picasso's sculpture. Path
from town down to Tylösand. Beaches. Golf....
