At the beginning, the video to "Do You Wanna Be My Baby?"is played. Then, VJ Eden starts to chat with Per Gessle... PG - Yeah, very well! VJ - (...) just in the video, mad video! PG - Yeah, with the forks! VJ - Yeah, it's a bit of a shame we can't really see it... PG - Yeah! VJ - Tell me a little bit about the video, what was it like? PG - We shot it in Stockholm with the Swedish director (...) who worked with Roxette before... we just wanted to do something different and that is not me playing guitar... VJ - Yeah! PG - So well! VJ - Really well, and it also went #1 in Sweden? PG - Yes! VJ - Yes! Are you doing well? PG - Very well! VJ - But... er... is that (...) that Roxette is not gonna happen anymore? PG - No, we just took a break after the last tour which ended up in'95, you know, so Marie wanted to spend more time with the family and I did some other (...) I worked with Belinda Carlisle last year... VJ - Wow! PG - So this new album's coming out in May... VJ - And in May, it's coming out? And what is it like, is it really different from Roxette, this album?... PG - Oh, yeah, it's a little bit more... VJ - Rocky! PG - Rock guitarry and a little louder, you know, a little bit more power pop, you know, Roxette is very much... a little bit more sophisticated! VJ - Also, before you were Roxette you had a successful career and she had a really successful career, do you feel like now you're going basicly to your root, or maybe...? PG - Yeah, a little bit, this album is actually an homage to pop music, you know, to the pop tradition. I'm very much the result of my record collection so this is very much me, you know, I like the music from the 70s a lot and the 60s and I tried to mix into something contemporary for the 90s!... VJ - Nice! And what did Marie say when you said "right, I'm gonna do solo"...? PG - Well, she didn't have problem with that, obviously she like the album, she actually sings on one track. VJ - Oh really? So everything is really cool and everything's very friendly! PG - No, we actually start working on a new Roxette album in November this year so hopefully there will be a new roxette album out... VJ - Oh, good! So... oh, right, nice! So everything is gonna happen! PG - Everything is fine! VJ - Right! OK and... also, what is Marie up to at the moment? Is she working on an album of her own or is she just chilling out? PG - Yes, she is, I actually hope she is working on Roxette material...she released a Swedish album last year and you know, she's got two kids now which takes a lot of time... And she's doing well! I met her... VJ - I wanted to ask you, do you expect the same sort of reaction from your soloalbum like you had with Roxette, because obviously it was massively successful all around the world!... PG - Well, obviously, I'd like people to like it, and to listen to it,but I mean, you can't really expect success, you know, it's something that happens, you know, we have a big follow all over the planet... so, this is a different thing and it's 1997 and... VJ - Yeah, you had a good reaction in Sweden, I can say that? PG - Very good reaction!, so... I hope everyone's gonna like it!... VJ - Yeah, remind (...) when the album is out? PG - May 5th! VJ - May the 5th!... PG - Yeah, see you in the shops! YJ - Yeah, and is it nice, do you prefer working by yourself, solo,or do you miss Marie, so...? PG - Well, there were moments when I missed Marie and surely VJ - Yeah!... PG - But I think it's healthy for a band who's been working such a long time as Roxette (...) we worked for like almost 7 years, very intense, and then touring and promoting, and recording, so we would... VJ - Yeah... and are we gonna see you performing live this summer? PG - Uh, well, this is not in my agenda really but no, no, if the album goes well I'm some shows (...) one show in Stockholm on... in a week from now for the release of the album VJ - Oh, really? So, a couple of songs... |
